WINTER 2017-18
Have not added to this blog since November - forgot how to get on! Must be getting old!?
We had a surprise SNOW fall on December 9 in Foley AL - what? Have never seen snow in the 18 years we've been coming to this area. Our car looked like this:
Astonishing, right? Didn't last long, though as you can see from the ground, it's already melting.
Just before Christmas we got the message that a cousin's husband was in his last days of life! We kept in touch deciding to drive home for his funeral. He worked with Gary at GM and they went fishing together several Good Fridays. They just live in Janesville, so we saw them often. We'll miss you, Roy!
This was also a good time to visit with sisters while we were "home." Stayed with Gary's sister, Bets, right in Edgerton and drove to Ft. Atkinson to get Carrie almost every day. Took Bets with us to an indoor miniature golf place in Madison. She had never tried mini-golf in her life - wow! And you know what? She did the best of all of us and won!!
The neat thing about the course is that each "green" becomes a special place in Madison, eg. the zoo, the bike trail, the capitol building, Monona Terrace, etc.
During the winter in AL we always have a puzzle on a table in the clubhouse. When each one is done, it is moved to a smaller table and a new puzzle is spread out. This was the neatest one this season - a corvette!
Of course, each puzzle is 1,000 pieces. We found the table is NOT big enough for 2,000 pieces, so we can't take that challenge. A 3-D puzzle was taken out of the box and put right back in - didn't make sense to anybody!!
And we also spend at least one day a week working at a nearby museum - Baldwin County Heritage Museum - in Elberta AL. Last week Gary and two WI men built a lean-to over a Crescent Machine, an old multi-tasking machine run by belts from a steam engine.
This is how it looked when the lean-to was finished 3 hours later.
Even the sign got put back in the ground in front of the machine. We plan to stay through Easter this year, then head for WI. Will add more to the blog IF we do something interesting! Happy Spring!
